Generic Azelex

Common use

Azelex is a topical cream primarily used to treat mild to moderate acne and rosacea. Its active ingredient, Azelaic Acid, works by unclogging pores, reducing inflammation, and killing acne-causing bacteria. It also helps reduce skin discoloration caused by acne and improves skin texture. Azelex is often recommended when other treatments cause irritation or are not well tolerated.

Dosage and direction

Apply Azelex twice daily, in the morning and evening, or as directed by your dermatologist. Clean and dry the affected skin before applying a thin layer of the cream. Avoid applying it to broken or irritated skin and keep it away from the eyes, mouth, and inside of the nose. Use consistently for several weeks to see noticeable improvement.

Precautions

Before using Azelex, inform your doctor if you have asthma, sensitive skin, or a history of allergic reactions. It is for external use only and should not be applied to large areas unless prescribed. Avoid excessive sun exposure and use sunscreen while using this medication. If skin irritation occurs, consult your doctor about adjusting usage.

Contraindications

Azelex is contraindicated in individuals with a known hypersensitivity to azelaic acid or any of its components. Do not use it on broken, sunburned, or eczematous skin. Possible side effect

Common side effects include burning, stinging, itching, dryness, or peeling at the application site. Some people may experience skin discoloration or redness. These effects are usually mild and temporary, especially as the skin adjusts. Serious allergic reactions are rare but require immediate medical attention.

Drug interaction

There are no major drug interactions with topical Azelex, but it's important to avoid using other harsh skincare products (like alcohol-based cleansers or abrasive scrubs) alongside it. Inform your doctor about any other topical medications or treatments you are using. Combining Azelex with other acne treatments should be done under medical supervision. This will help avoid excessive skin irritation.

Missed dose

If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as you remember. If it's close to your next scheduled application, skip the missed dose — do not double the application. Maintaining a consistent routine helps the medication work more effectively. Missing occasional doses will not significantly affect long-term results.

Overdose

Topical overdose is unlikely, but excessive application can lead to severe skin irritation, redness, or burning. If accidentally ingested, seek immediate medical attention. Use only as prescribed and do not apply more frequently than directed. Always wash hands after applying to prevent unintentional contact with sensitive areas.

Storage

Store Azelex cream at room temperature (15–25°C / 59–77°F), away from excessive heat, moisture, and direct sunlight. Keep the cap tightly closed when not in use. Do not freeze. Store out of reach of children and pets.
