Generic Budesonide Inhaler

Common use
Budesonide is a corticosteroid medication used to reduce inflammation in conditions such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), Crohn’s disease, and ulcerative colitis. It works by suppressing the immune response and decreasing the release of substances that cause inflammation. Depending on the form, it may be inhaled, taken orally, or used rectally. Budesonide provides symptom relief and helps prevent flare-ups in chronic inflammatory disorders.

Dosage and direction
The dosage depends on the condition being treated and the formulation prescribed (inhaler, capsule, or enema). For asthma, it is commonly used as an inhalation twice daily, while for inflammatory bowel diseases, oral capsules are usually taken once daily in the morning. Always follow your doctor's exact instructions and do not adjust the dose without medical advice. Inhaled forms should be rinsed out of the mouth after use to prevent oral thrush.

Precautions
Inform your doctor if you have a history of infections, liver disease, or tuberculosis. Long-term use may suppress the immune system, so avoid contact with people who are sick or recently vaccinated with live vaccines. Monitor for signs of adrenal suppression or slowed growth in children. Budesonide should be used with caution in pregnant or breastfeeding women unless clearly needed.

Contraindications
Budesonide should not be used by individuals allergic to it or any of its components. It is contraindicated in patients with untreated fungal, bacterial, or viral infections. Inhaled forms are not for acute asthma attacks or sudden breathing issues. Use is not recommended in children without medical supervision due to the risk of growth suppression.

Possible side effect
Common side effects include headache, nausea, sore throat, and respiratory infections. Inhaled forms may cause hoarseness or oral thrush. Long-term use may result in hormonal imbalances, osteoporosis, or mood changes. Report any signs of vision changes, persistent fatigue, or unusual weight gain to your doctor.

Drug interaction
Budesonide may interact with antifungals like ketoconazole, certain antibiotics, and HIV medications that affect liver enzymes. Combining it with other corticosteroids can increase the risk of systemic side effects. Grapefruit juice may also affect how the drug is metabolized. Always inform your doctor about all medications and supplements you’re using.

Missed dose
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember, unless it’s close to the next scheduled dose. Do not double the dose to catch up. Maintain a consistent dosing routine for best results. If multiple doses are missed, consult your healthcare provider.

Overdose
Overdose is unlikely with inhaled budesonide but can occur with prolonged excessive use. Symptoms may include increased fatigue, muscle weakness, or hormonal imbalance. In serious cases, overdose may suppress adrenal function. Contact your doctor or poison control center immediately if overdose is suspected.

Storage
Store budesonide at room temperature (20°C to 25°C / 68°F to 77°F), away from moisture and heat. Keep inhalers or capsules tightly closed and out of reach of children. Do not freeze or expose to direct sunlight. Discard any expired medication properly.
