Common use
Cefadroxil is a broad-spectrum cephalosporin antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections of the skin, throat, urinary tract, and respiratory system. It works by interfering with the formation of bacterial cell walls, leading to the destruction of the bacteria. It is effective against many gram-positive and some gram-negative bacteria. The drug is not suitable for treating viral infections such as colds or flu.

Dosage and direction
Cefadroxil is usually taken once or twice daily, depending on the severity and type of infection. It can be taken with or without food, but taking it with food may reduce stomach upset. The full course must be completed even if symptoms improve earlier. Always follow your doctor’s dosage instructions precisely.

Precautions
Before using cefadroxil, inform your doctor if you have kidney disease, a history of gastrointestinal problems, or allergies to penicillins or other cephalosporins. The medication may cause diarrhea, which could be a sign of a more serious intestinal condition. Long-term or repeated use may result in secondary infections. Drug interaction
Cefadroxil may interact with live bacterial vaccines, such as the typhoid vaccine. It can also affect the results of certain lab tests, including glucose tests in urine. Inform your doctor of all medications, supplements, and medical conditions before starting treatment. There are no major interactions with most common medications, but caution is advised.

Missed dose
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and continue with your regular schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up. Taking doses at evenly spaced intervals helps maintain effective drug levels.

Overdose
Symptoms of overdose may include severe nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, or seizures. Seek emergency medical attention if overdose is suspected. Treatment involves supportive care and, in some cases, hospitalization. There is no specific antidote.

Storage
Store cefadroxil at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. Keep the bottle tightly closed and out of reach of children. Do not use the medication past the expiration date. Follow proper disposal instructions for any unused portion.
