Common use

Colofac pills contain Mebeverin hydrochloride as the main ingredient. This drug refers to antispasmodic class of medications. The main chemical substance is used for smooth muscles relaxation in the gut. It helps your organism to relieve severe muscle spasms of the gut saving its usual motility. It is recommended to use for treating gastrointestinal diseases: chronic irritable colon or bowel syndrome, spastic constipation, spastic or mucous colitis.



Dosage and direction

This medication is taken 3 times within a day, 20 minutes before meals with a glass of fresh water. You should take the dosage indicated by your physician in the prescription. The dosage can be changed within a few weeks by your doctor. The period of treatment depends on your health condition and doctor’s recommendations.



Precautions

Be cautious using this drug when having angina or certain heart conditions, various liver problems, kidney problems and lactose intolerance. Your doctor must know whether you are pregnant or you feed a baby with breast milk. Treatment requires special care if you have any hereditary blood disorders called porphyrias.



Contraindications

Colofac medication must not be swallowed if you have allergic reactions to any of its active ingredients or other components. This drug is not recommended for small children under 10. Common allergic reactions include skin rash, severe itching and breath shortness or swelling of the eyes, face and tongue, which may cause various difficulties in swallowing or breathing.



Possible side effect

A numer of side effects can be experienced during Colofac therapy. These symptoms are sometimes severe. If you feel influence of negative side effects you should instantly consult your doctor: indigestion or heartburn, constipation, dizziness, headache, tiredness, sleeping difficulties, loss of appetite and sleep. These are the common negative influences. You can sometimes experience swelling of the lips, face or tongue, hard swallowing or breathing. If your side symptoms are strong it will be better to refer to emergency service.



Drug interaction

You must inform your physician about taking any other medications together with Colofac. Pay special attention to the use of herbal medicines. This drug can interact with different chemical substances. Some of them can reduce or reinforce the therapeutic effects.



Missed dose

If you missed a dosage, simply wait till the next one take it according to a usual schedule. If you noticed that a dose has been missed and the next one should be taken in quite a while, the one you’ve missed can be taken then to avoid missing it. Do not try to take double dose. It leads to overdose in most cases.



Overdose

If a patient has taken too much of the medicine, professional medical service can be required. Inform your doctor about overdose even if there are no vivid signs of discomfort or severe poisoning. The most common symptoms of overdose are nausea, allergic reactions and others.



Storage

Colofac tablets should be kept in their original package away from constant heat, direct moisture and light. The best storing condition is room temperature below 30°C. Store your medicine far away from children and different pets.
