Generic Cyclopam

Common use

Cyclopam (dicyclomine) is prescribed for the treatment of functional bowel disorders, particularly irritable bowel syndrome. It works as an anticholinergic (antispasmodic) agent that relaxes the smooth muscles of the gut, reducing cramping, spasms, and abdominal discomfort.

Dosage and direction

Cyclopam is usually taken orally, typically 20 mg to 40 mg up to four times daily, depending on severity and doctor’s instructions. Tablets or capsules should be swallowed whole with water, and dosage adjustments may be necessary for elderly patients or those with kidney or liver issues.

Precautions

Inform your doctor if you have glaucoma, urinary retention, bowel obstruction, heart problems, or myasthenia gravis. Cyclopam may cause drowsiness, dizziness, or blurred vision, so caution is advised when driving or operating machinery.

Contraindications

Do not use Cyclopam if allergic to dicyclomine or any component of the formulation. It is contraindicated in patients with severe ulcerative colitis, obstructive gastrointestinal conditions, or glaucoma.

Possible side effect

Common side effects include dry mouth, dizziness, blurred vision, constipation, or mild nausea. Serious side effects may include severe allergic reactions, confusion, rapid heartbeat, or urinary retention. Seek medical attention if serious symptoms occur.

Drug interaction

Cyclopam may interact with other anticholinergic medications, antihistamines, or drugs that cause drowsiness. Inform your healthcare provider about all prescription medications, over-the-counter products, and supplements you are taking.

Missed dose

If a dose is missed, take it as soon as you remember unless it is close to the next scheduled dose. Do not double the dose.

Overdose

Overdose may cause severe drowsiness, dry mouth, blurred vision, rapid heartbeat, or confusion. Seek immediate medical attention if overdose is suspected.

Storage

Store Cyclopam at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and light. Keep tablets in the original container and out of reach of children.
