Generic Diclofenac

Common Use
Diclofenac is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to relieve pain and reduce inflammation. It is commonly prescribed for conditions such as arthritis, muscle pain, back pain, menstrual cramps, and other inflammatory disorders. It works by blocking the production of substances in the body that cause pain and swelling.

Dosage and Direction
Diclofenac is available in several forms including tablets, capsules, gels, and injections. Dosage depends on the condition and the form used, and it should always be taken as prescribed. Oral forms are usually taken with food or milk to reduce stomach irritation.

Precautions
Long-term or high-dose use can increase the risk of serious cardiovascular events such as heart attack or stroke. Inform your doctor if you have a history of heart disease, high blood pressure, kidney or liver issues, or gastrointestinal ulcers. Avoid alcohol and smoking while using diclofenac, as they increase the risk of stomach bleeding.

Contraindications
Diclofenac should not be used in patients with known hypersensitivity to NSAIDs or those who have experienced asthma, urticaria, or allergic-type reactions after taking aspirin or other NSAIDs. It is contraindicated in patients with active gastrointestinal bleeding or severe liver or kidney dysfunction. It is not recommended during late pregnancy.

Possible Side Effects
Common side effects include stomach pain, indigestion, nausea, dizziness, or headache. Serious side effects may include gastrointestinal bleeding, high blood pressure, kidney problems, or liver toxicity. If you experience chest pain, difficulty breathing, or black stools, seek medical help immediately.

Drug Interaction
Diclofenac may interact with blood thinners, other NSAIDs, corticosteroids, diuretics, and some blood pressure medications. Combining it with alcohol or smoking increases the risk of stomach problems. Always inform your doctor about all medications and supplements you are taking.

Missed Dose
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for the next dose. Do not double the dose to make up for the missed one. Resume your regular schedule as directed.

Overdose
An overdose of diclofenac can lead to symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, drowsiness, or seizures. In case of overdose, seek emergency medical help immediately. Treatment is supportive and may require hospitalization.

Storage
Store diclofenac at room temperature away from moisture, light, and heat. Keep all forms tightly closed and out of reach of children. Do not use expired medication.
