Hydroquinone

Common use
Hydroquinone topical is used to lighten skin discolorations, such as age spots, melasma, and freckles. It works by inhibiting melanin production in the skin, helping to fade dark spots and promote a more even skin tone.

Dosage and direction
Apply a thin layer of Hydroquinone topical cream or gel to the affected area(s) as prescribed, usually 1–2 times daily. Clean the skin before application and avoid using the product near eyes, mouth, or mucous membranes. Follow your healthcare provider’s instructions carefully.

Precautions
Avoid prolonged sun exposure and use sunscreen, as Hydroquinone can make the skin more sensitive to sunlight. Inform your doctor if you have any skin conditions, especially eczema or dermatitis, as it may increase irritation.

Contraindications
Do not use Hydroquinone topical if you are allergic to Hydroquinone or any other ingredients in the product. It is not recommended for use on broken or irritated skin.

Possible side effect
Common side effects include skin irritation, redness, or a mild burning sensation at the application site. Rarely, more serious effects such as ochronosis (a bluish-black discoloration of the skin) or an allergic reaction may occur.

Drug interaction
Hydroquinone typically has minimal interactions with other drugs when used topically. However, avoid combining it with other bleaching agents or irritating topical treatments unless directed by a healthcare provider.

Missed dose
If you miss an application, apply it as soon as you remember unless it’s close to the time for your next dose. Do not apply more than usual to make up for a missed dose.

Overdose
Overuse or application on large areas of the skin may increase the risk of side effects like skin irritation or hyperpigmentation. Seek medical attention if an overdose is suspected.

Storage
Store Hydroquinone topical at room temperature, away from moisture, heat, and light. Keep it tightly closed and out of reach of children.
