Generic Kombiglyze XR

Common use

Kombiglyze XR (saxagliptin and metformin XR) is prescribed for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Saxagliptin is a DPP-4 inhibitor that increases incretin hormones to boost insulin release and decrease glucagon levels. Metformin XR decreases glucose production in the liver and improves insulin sensitivity, helping lower blood sugar.

Dosage and direction

Kombiglyze XR is usually taken once daily with the evening meal. Swallow tablets whole with water; do not crush or chew. The dosage depends on kidney function, current therapy, and individual patient needs. Follow your healthcare provider’s instructions carefully.

Precautions

Inform your doctor if you have kidney or liver disease, heart failure, a history of lactic acidosis, or pancreatitis. Monitor blood sugar regularly and maintain a healthy diet and exercise regimen. Report any unusual symptoms such as severe stomach pain, nausea, or persistent vomiting.

Contraindications

Do not use Kombiglyze XR if allergic to saxagliptin, metformin, or any other component of the tablet. It is contraindicated in patients with severe kidney impairment, metabolic acidosis, or a history of lactic acidosis.

Possible side effect

Common side effects include headache, nausea, diarrhea, upper respiratory infections, and mild hypoglycemia when combined with other antidiabetic drugs. Serious side effects may include lactic acidosis, pancreatitis, severe hypoglycemia, or allergic reactions. Seek immediate medical attention if severe symptoms occur.

Drug interaction

Kombiglyze XR may interact with other antidiabetic medications, certain antibiotics, diuretics, corticosteroids, and heart medications. Always inform your healthcare provider about all prescription drugs, over-the-counter products, and supplements you are taking.

Missed dose

If a dose is missed, take it as soon as you remember unless it is close to the next scheduled dose. Do not double the dose.

Overdose

Overdose may cause severe hypoglycemia, nausea, vomiting, or lactic acidosis. Seek immediate medical attention if an overdose is suspected.

Storage

Store Kombiglyze XR at room temperature, away from moisture, heat, and light. Keep tablets in the original container and out of reach of children.
