Common Use

Latuda is prescribed for the treatment of schizophrenia and depressive episodes associated with bipolar disorder. It can be used alone or in combination with other medications. The drug helps reduce symptoms such as hallucinations, mood swings, and disorganized thinking. It supports long-term symptom management and relapse prevention.

Dosage and Direction

Latuda should be taken exactly as prescribed by a healthcare provider. It is usually taken once daily with food to improve absorption. Dosage is adjusted based on condition, response, and tolerance. Do not stop taking Latuda suddenly without medical advice.

Precautions

Inform your doctor if you have a history of heart problems, seizures, or metabolic disorders. Latuda may cause drowsiness or dizziness, especially at the start of treatment. Avoid alcohol while taking this medication. Regular monitoring may be required during long-term use.

Contraindications

Latuda is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to lurasidone or its components. It should not be used with strong CYP3A4 inhibitors or inducers. Use in elderly patients with dementia-related psychosis is not recommended. Pregnancy and breastfeeding require medical consultation.

Possible Side Effects

Common side effects include nausea, drowsiness, restlessness, and anxiety. Some patients may experience weight gain or changes in appetite. Extrapyramidal symptoms such as muscle stiffness may occur. Seek medical attention if severe or persistent side effects develop.

Drug Interaction

Latuda has significant interactions with medications affecting the CYP3A4 enzyme system. Certain antifungals and antibiotics may increase its levels. Combining Latuda with CNS depressants may enhance sedation. Always inform your doctor about all medications and supplements you are taking.

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember with food. If it is close to the next scheduled dose, skip the missed one. Do not take two doses at the same time. Continue with your regular dosing schedule.

Overdose

Symptoms of overdose may include severe drowsiness, confusion, or abnormal heart rhythm. Seek immediate medical attention if an overdose is suspected. Do not exceed the prescribed dose. Supportive medical care may be required.

Storage

Store Latuda at room temperature away from moisture and heat. Keep the medication in its original container. Protect from direct sunlight. Keep out of reach of children.
