Generic Medroxyprogesterone

Common use
Medroxyprogesterone is a synthetic form of the hormone progesterone, used to treat menstrual disorders, abnormal uterine bleeding, and to regulate ovulation. It is also prescribed as part of hormone replacement therapy in menopausal women. In its injectable form, it is widely used as a long-term contraceptive. The medication works by mimicking natural progesterone to regulate hormone levels and reproductive function.

Dosage and direction
Medroxyprogesterone is available in oral tablets and injectable formulations. For hormonal disorders, the oral dose is typically taken once daily for a set number of days each cycle, usually under doctor supervision. For contraception, the intramuscular injection is administered every three months. Dosage and treatment duration vary depending on the condition being treated and patient response.

Precautions

Missed dose
If a tablet dose is missed, it should be taken as soon as remembered unless it is close to the time of the next dose. Do not double the dose. If you miss an injection for birth control, consult your healthcare provider immediately, as backup contraception may be necessary. Consistency is important for effectiveness, especially in hormonal treatments.

Overdose
Symptoms of overdose may include nausea, vomiting, dizziness, or vaginal bleeding. There is no specific antidote; treatment is symptomatic and supportive. Seek immediate medical attention if overdose is suspected. In most cases, overdose is not life-threatening but still requires evaluation.

Storage
Store medroxyprogesterone tablets at room temperature, away from moisture, heat, and direct sunlight. Injectable forms should be stored according to package instructions, often between 15–30°C. Keep the medication out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiration date and dispose of properly if no longer needed.
