Generic Nootropil

Common use

Nootropil is a a smart-drug or nootropic medication. It is a derivative of GABA or gamma-aminobutyric acid, a neurotransmitter. It positively affects metabolic processes of the brain such as synthesis of RNA and phospholipid, increases concentration of ATP in the brain tissue, improves the integrative activity of the brain, improves memory and process of learning, changes speed of excitation conduction in the brain, improves microcirculation. Nootropil acts protectively when the brain tissue could be injured by hypoxia, intoxication, electrochock. It also improves connection between the brain hemispheres and synaptic conductivity in the neocortex, increases mental efficiency, improves cerebral blood flow. Nootropil has little sedative and psychoactive effect.

Nootropil is used to treat mental syndromes caused by cerebral deficiency, chronic cerebrovascular insufficiency (memory impairment, attention, speech, dizziness, headache), disturbances in the mental performance of the elderly, residual effects of stroke, coma, diseases of the nervous system associated with decreased intellectual and mnemonic functions, and violations of emotional and volitional (including Alzheimer's disease), different psychiatric conditions, disturbances caused by alcohol withdrawal, acute intoxications with ethanol, morphine, barbiturates, phenylamine.



Dosage and direction

Different conditions should be treated by individually and require a specific dosage. Follow all instructions of your doctor. Do not take double dose of this medication.



Precautions

Monitoring of kidney functioning is necessary to be done on a regular basis especially in the patients with a kidney failure. Patients with liver diseases should be monitored for liver functioning. Your doctor may administer different psychoactive, cardiovascular and other medications. In the patients with acute brain injuries Nootropil is used in combination with other methods of detoxification and regenerative therapy. When sleeping disturbances occur it is recommend to discontinue night intake of Nootropil and take night and day doses together. Cautiousness should be exercised while driving or operating machinery. Inform your doctor if you have hemostasis disturbances, severe bleeding, plan to be operated, pregnant or breastfeeding.



Contraindications

Nootropil cannot be used in the patients with hypersensitivity to the medication, severe kidney failure, hemorrhagic insult.



Side effects

The most common adverse reactions are mental excitation, motor disinhibition, irritability, lack of balance, inability to concentrate, anxiety, sleeping disturbances, pain in stomach, nausea, vomiting, constipation or diarrhea, loss of appetite, dizziness, headache, extrapyramidal disorders, convulsions, tremors, increased sexual activity, worsening angina. Side effects most frequently occur when dose of Nootropil is above 5 g/day.



Drug interaction

Nootropil increases efficiency of thyroid hormone, antipsychotic drugs (neuroleptics), indirect anticoagulants (if Nootropil doses are high), psychostimulants. When Nootropil is co-administered with neuroleptics it reduces the risk of extrapyramidal disorders.



Missed dose

If you forgot to take your dose in time, please do it as soon as you remember. But do not take if it is too late or time for your next dose is in a short while. Do not take double doses of this medication or extra doses of it. Take your usually dose next day in the same regularly time.



Overdose

Symptoms of overdose are unknown. If you suspect that too much of Nootropil was taken inform your doctor.



Storage

Store at room temperature between 20-25 C (68-77 F). Store away from moisture, heat, and sunlight. It is not recommended to store in a bathroom and places available for children.
