Generic Stalevo

Common use
Stalevo is a combination medication used to treat Parkinson’s disease and Parkinson-like symptoms. It contains Carbidopa, which helps prevent the breakdown of levodopa before it reaches the brain, and Entacapone, which further extends the effectiveness of levodopa by inhibiting its breakdown in the body. This combination helps improve motor symptoms associated with Parkinson’s disease.

Dosage and direction
Stalevo is typically taken 3 to 4 times a day with food to reduce stomach upset. The exact dosage is individualized based on the patient's condition and response to treatment. Your doctor will determine the appropriate dose of Stalevo based on your needs and may adjust the dose over time.

Precautions
Before using Stalevo, inform your doctor if you have any history of liver disease, heart disease, or low blood pressure. Since this medication can cause drowsiness or dizziness, avoid operating machinery or driving until you know how it affects you. Monitoring kidney and liver function during treatment may also be required.

Contraindications
Stalevo should not be used in individuals who are allergic to Carbidopa, Entacapone, or any other ingredients in the medication. It is also contraindicated in people who have narrow-angle glaucoma, or a history of neuroleptic malignant syndrome (a severe reaction to antipsychotic medications), or if you are taking certain medications like non-selective monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs).

Possible side effect
Common side effects of Stalevo include nausea, dizziness, headaches, and abdominal discomfort. Some people may experience involuntary movements (dyskinesia), confusion, or changes in blood pressure. Rarely, Stalevo can cause severe side effects like liver problems or allergic reactions.

Drug interaction
Stalevo may interact with certain antidepressants, antipsychotics, and blood pressure medications. It is important to inform your doctor of all other medications you are taking, especially those affecting the dopamine system or those that may alter liver function.

Missed dose
If you miss a dose of Stalevo, take it as soon as you remember unless it's almost time for your next dose. Do not take two doses at once to make up for a missed dose. If you are unsure, ask your doctor for specific instructions.

Overdose
Overdose symptoms may include severe nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, or confusion. In case of overdose, seek immediate medical attention.

Storage
Store Stalevo at room temperature, away from heat and moisture. Keep the medication tightly closed and out of reach of children.
