Generic Urecholine

Common Use

Urecholine is prescribed to treat urinary retention that occurs after surgery, childbirth, or in certain neurological conditions. It works by stimulating the bladder muscles to promote normal urination. The medication helps restore bladder emptying. It is not used for mechanical obstruction of the urinary tract.

Dosage and Direction

Urecholine should be taken exactly as prescribed by a healthcare provider. The dosage depends on the patient’s condition and response to treatment. It is usually taken on an empty stomach to reduce nausea. Do not exceed the recommended dose.

Precautions

Inform your doctor if you have asthma, heart disease, or low blood pressure. Urecholine may cause dizziness or lightheadedness. Avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how the medication affects you. Medical supervision is recommended during treatment.

Contraindications

Urecholine is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to bethanechol or its components. It should not be used in patients with mechanical obstruction of the urinary or gastrointestinal tract. Certain heart, lung, or gastrointestinal conditions may also prevent use. Pregnancy and breastfeeding require medical consultation.

Possible Side Effects

Common side effects include abdominal cramps, nausea, and increased salivation. Some patients may experience sweating or flushing. These effects are usually mild and dose-related. Seek medical attention if severe reactions occur.

Drug Interaction

Urecholine may interact with other medications affecting the nervous system. Combining it with anticholinergic drugs may reduce its effectiveness. Certain blood pressure medications may enhance side effects. Always inform your doctor about all medicines you are taking.

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is close to the next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose. Do not take two doses at the same time. Continue with your regular schedule.

Overdose

Symptoms of overdose may include excessive sweating, nausea, vomiting, or low blood pressure. Seek immediate medical attention if an overdose is suspected. Do not exceed the prescribed amount. Supportive treatment may be required.

Storage

Store Urecholine at room temperature away from moisture and heat. Keep the medication in its original packaging. Protect from direct sunlight. Keep out of reach of children.
