Generic Zithromax Dispersible

Common use

Zithromax Dispersible is an antibiotic medication used to treat a variety of bacterial infections such as respiratory tract infections, skin infections, ear infections, and certain sexually transmitted diseases. It contains Azithromycin, a macrolide antibiotic that works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis, stopping the growth of harmful bacteria. The dispersible tablet is especially useful for children or those who have difficulty swallowing pills. It offers effective and convenient treatment for common bacterial illnesses.

Dosage and direction

Zithromax Dispersible should be taken once daily, with or without food, as directed by your healthcare provider. To administer, dissolve the tablet in a small amount of water, stir well, and consume immediately. Dosage is based on the patient’s weight, age, and the type of infection being treated. Complete the full prescribed course, even if symptoms improve before the medication is finished.

Precautions

Inform your doctor if you have a history of liver disease, kidney problems, heart rhythm disorders, or myasthenia gravis. Azithromycin may cause QT prolongation, which can affect heart rhythm, especially in susceptible individuals. Avoid using this drug for viral infections like the flu or common cold. Discuss all medications and supplements you take to avoid interactions.

Contraindications

Zithromax Dispersible is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Azithromycin, erythromycin, or other macrolide antibiotics. It should not be used in those with a history of cholestatic jaundice or liver dysfunction associated with prior azithromycin use. Use in infants under 6 months is not recommended unless directed by a physician. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult a doctor before use.

Possible side effect

Common side effects include diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain, and vomiting. Some users may experience headache, dizziness, or skin rash. Rare but serious reactions include liver inflammation, allergic reactions, or irregular heartbeat. Seek immediate medical help if you notice signs of severe allergic response such as swelling, difficulty breathing, or rash.

Drug interaction

Zithromax may interact with antacids containing aluminum or magnesium, blood thinners like warfarin, digoxin, and medications that affect heart rhythm. Do not take antacids within 2 hours before or after taking Zithromax. Inform your healthcare provider about all the medications and supplements you use. These interactions may increase side effects or reduce the effectiveness of treatment.

Missed dose

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue with your regular schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed one. Missing doses can reduce the effectiveness of the treatment.

Overdose

In the case of an overdose, symptoms may include severe nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or hearing loss. Seek immediate medical attention if an overdose is suspected. Supportive care is typically given to manage symptoms. Always use medications as prescribed to prevent accidental overdose.

Storage

Store Zithromax Dispersible at room temperature (15–30°C / 59–86°F), away from light, moisture, and heat. Keep the tablets in their original packaging until ready to use. Do not use after the expiration date. Keep out of reach of children and pets.
